The owner told me he was from Lake Charles, LA, which is about 3 hours away from where I grew up. I was very excited to try their Catfish, so I got that with beans and potato salad. The catfish tasted very clean, and was incredibly tender. The spices were also excellent! As for the sides, the beans took me back to my mom’s dinner table. This was the first time since I left home 2 years ago that I had beans the way my mom makes them. The only reason I give 4 of 5 stars is because the potato salad recipe seems inauthentic, though it may be suited for some. Every other part of the meal was absolutely wonderful and worth it! Would highly recommend to someone who wants good Cajun and Creole food while in Spokane. It’ll take you right back home!

Not my grandmother’s soul food but close enough. It’s soul food with what I’d assume is Spokane twist. I enjoy the staff and the owner is a nice guy. The food is good my one complaint is the gumbo only serving I’m twice a month sucks , it’s really hard to get in to get some due to all the call in orders according yo the wait staff.

  3. Blakely Holmes

Incredible food with an amazing story of community support for our kids!

Just had dinner, and it reminded me of home (Detroit, MI). The food was awesome, service was spectacular, and the collard greens were better than my grandmas, but don’t tell her that. Ribs were falling off the bone 😛. I definitely recommend this spot! Can’t wait to come back

  6. Lance Romine

Best chicken in town, no contest. Great collards and the ribs are meaty and tender. Great staff and friendly atmosphere. Awesome.

  7. Trevor Lane

Topshelf fresh food from the soul. Best in region!

  8. Darren Lindsay

The best place to eat. Cat fish and ribs.. also they have gumbo on the first Saturday of the month.

  9. Autumn Ashdown

Great service and amazing food I will definitely be returning

Spokane’s new little secret. Great place with great food. Owner is a sweetheart. Service is decent. Only complaint I have is the gumbo isn’t every day!

Edit: I’m scared the devil may have taken over this place. Prices are absolutely through the roof. Not just a little high, crazy high. The ribs went up $20! Everything is over a 50% increase. Now I know things are expensive, but jeez. When things are doubling since the last menu and more than every other restaurant in town…. Something isn’t right. The atmosphere just felt sour. I hope things get back to normal. I hope the attitudes are just a one off. Food is still excellent, but unfortunately unaffordable….

If you haven’t gone here yet, I BEG of you too! Some of the best comfort food, especially in Spokane, chicken that falls off the bone, friendly staff and overall a WONDERFUL environment. The catfish is also unbelievably delicious, it’s my go-to

I’m from VA went to Spokane on business. This soul food doesn’t taste like down south country cooking. Everything was missing something. But it was fresh and hot.

  22. Turbodieselkyle

Amazing food and exceptional service. Reasonably priced!

I was excited to try the food here and to find out more about the attitude of giving BACK to the community.
The meal provided was an EXCELLENT array of FINE Alabama influence cooking I have eaten in years.
The greens, tomatoes, sauce, SLAW, and taters were soooooo YUMMY!
Meats were succulent, pulled pork ribs perfect.
I did make a noisy deal of lapping up all the food.
Atmosphere is really down home; Mike and his family and friends do honor to the Kingdom of Christ Jesus.
Their soul food is more than chopped meat. Refreshing in all areas of my palate.
This is a fine thing happening on 5th Ave!
    You’ll love it.

Phenomenal food with a good mission.

I’ve been wanting to come here for months now and finally had the opportunity to. Tracy greeted me and let me pick a table I’d be sharing with my friends once they arrived. She brought out menus for us, as well as some literature about the restaurant and its mission. Needless to say, I was impressed. We were given ample time to order, and when the fish I had ordered arrived, it was hot, fresh and delicious!

The potato salad was great, and the food my friends ordered was really good according to them. I will need to come back when the gumbo and Mac and cheese is back on the menu. Looking forward to trying the red beans and rice, cornbread, collards… yeah, it is worth coming back again! I’m not hungry, but still salivating thinking about it.

    The pies were amazing!

  27. emily banks

This food is not soul food soul food is cooked from the heart the Ribs were boiled and tasted like neck bones with cheap bbq sauce the greens were bag greens and tough baked beans were cheap out of the can potato salad was dry the expensive pie was store bought you could tell the brand I buy it all the time the only positive thing I can say is they help the community by providing jobs I would not call this Soul food nor refer anyone here to eat

  28. John Spencer

The chicken legs were horrible ( must have been cooked a few hours before I ordered and no favor) , collard greens was okay, redbeans rice and Catfish was ok. The best item was the corn bread and unsweetened tea.

I wanna start by saying I didnt get the complete experience because I ordered via Uber. With that being said here goes my review.

Spokane seems to have a lack of Soul Food places so I was excited to try this one, and I am so glad I did. I ordered a 2 Piece Combo Meal and got the Beans and Potato Salad for my sides. I added on an order of the greens for a lil something extra. The food arrived in good shape and still piping hot which made me happy as most food gets cold with delivery.

The potato salad was good, even though I am not usually a fan of sweeter tasting potato salads (but im not a jerk so I wont be docking any stars over a personal preference here), the beans were nice and hot and tasted fresh. This was only my second time having collard greens and they were very tasty and filling, and worlds better than the ones I had tried elsewhere.

But I have to mention the star of the show here. When I saw on the Uber menu that all the fried chicken is drumsticks I felt kinda humdrum about it… until they arrived. These drums were HUGE and loaded with meat, the only way they would have been bigger is if they were a Turkey Leg. These drums were tender, hot, seasoned and cooked to perfection. I am not exaggerating when I tell you this was the best fried chicken I have had in years. I will be straight up having romantic dreams about this chicken… even writing this review I want more…

Eat here, you wont regret it!

I’m struggling right now. And I went there on Thanksgiving to get a plate and they gave you a $100. It was such an incredible feeling of joy. What wonderful God hearing people. They are very caring. Thank you guys.

  32. David Smith

Thanksgiving dinner meal to go boxes beanie, gloves and a $100 at 10:00 yesterday morning. 100 people got fed another 100+ just got cash. What a noble way to give back to the community. 👍🏻👍🏻

Quite literally the best food I’ve had in at least a year! Huge portions, amazing food, something for everyone! I went to pick up my rib to take my first bite and all the meat slid off and I was left holding a bare bone 😂 Rib sandwich was PERFECT, cornbread, bmilkshakes, beans n rice, out of this world! AND you are supporting an amazing cause ran by truly inspirational people. Thank you so much!!

  34. Tristin Walker

So friendly and welcoming, and an extremely local vibe.

  37. John Beaudry

I have always wanted to try this place and finally stopped for lunch. Mom had the rib sandwich with fries the fries were nicely seasoned and she enjoyed the sandwich. I had the 3 rib meal and they were quite good fall off the bone they use a sweet and slightly spicy BBQ sauce. I would certainly come back again. The restaurant was very neat and clean and the service was very good. On top of that when you eat here you are supporting a good cause.

  38. Rachel Coski

My husband and I wanted to take our bbq loving nephew to dinner for his 15th birthday, and Fesh Soul did not disappoint. The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, and our server so attentive and provided great recommendations. They even took the time to come out and wish happy birthday and share with my nephew about their job training, basketball camp and other opportunities for young people like himself. Two gentlemen dining next to us left saying something like, “That was so good! We just texted all of our friends about this place; nowhere like it in the PNW!”.
