    Great avocado open face sandwich!
Great customer service despite how busy it was. 😊😊

  2. Scott Harron

Love a Cafe with All-day breakfast! Service and food were excellent.

  3. John P

Took a long time to get seated, long time to take my order, long time to get food. I had to walk to the bar to get more coffee. Food was skimpy, only one piece of toast, hardly any vegetables in a veggy scramble. Scramble and hash browns nicely prepared. I could eat better at Starbucks for 1/2 the cost. About the worst cafe dinner I have been to ever.

First time going to Island Cafe, went there for breakfast. The food was really good, portions were decent sized and server was friendly. Will definitely go back again.

  5. Carel Edgerly

Not terrible. Philly steak sandwich was good but “Monte Cristo” failed. A club with wimpy French toast. Also they want you to use the Qcode menu but don’t offer free WiFi. However a printed menu was provided. Non-existent atmosphere.

After being turned away from two other places we turned around and came back because two OPEN signs were lit at 8:45. Coming from a long family history of restaurants I was surprised that we could not be seated. I thought maybe things have changed and looked it up. Found this but bottom line it is owners restaurant to do what he wills and my choice to patronize the place.

“ I have worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years and I feel it is quite simple. If you advertise that you are open until 10:00 PM and your OPEN sign is on/up, that means the whole business operation is open to full services until posted closing time of 10:00PM, unless otherwise specified or CLOSED sign is currently on/up.”

To top it off. We could order to go and I asked if they could still do a Prime Rib RARE. She said yes. I get home and there is zero pink much less red. It is solidly well done. A total waste of meat.

Meh, standard breakfast, lunch, and dinner diner. We had breakfast there. I had the chicken fried steak and my girlfriend had the small egg/bacon combo. Not bad but nothing special either. Portions were large and the service was good. Prices were a bit high for the basic dishes being offered. Might be back but only if nothing else is open.

  8. Michele Clay

This place is awesome. Best grilled cheese I’ve had in 3 years. My table mate had biscuits and gravy with hash brown’s cooked to perfection. I will be back with more people. Spreading the word about the all day breakfast.

  9. Keturah Grandstaff

It was very busy during lunch time. Although we didn’t have to wait to long. Staff is friendly and say sorry for making you wait. The food tasted great and portion size was large. I had the orchard salad yum and my husband the clam strip basket which he ate all of. It was Covid clean and staff wears masks.

  10. Jessica Campbell

Breakfast was pretty mediocre. Gravy had no flavor and definitely came from a packet mixed with water. Veggies in scramble were raw. Would go somewhere else if you are looking for a good home cooked tasting meal. Service was great though.

    Solid family restraunt
Personally I would stick to the petite plates, both I think they do best with their breakfast food, and the smaller portions are still way more than I can eat, and it’s $10 which is solid for not doing dishes

Note, I did order half the hash browns
Second Note, the fries are apparently very good (my boyfriend had them)

  12. Nicky Nancy

Raspberry French toast was very good.

  13. Dane Durocher

this wasn’t my first visit and won’t be my last.. food is usually pretty good although one in our party said it seemed as if their fries had been under a heat lamp a bit too long. staff has always been friendly, courteous and checks on you about the perfect amount of times. they neither forget about you nor are they bothering you while you enjoy your meal. my biggest knock on them is cleanliness. it’s not filthy by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s room for improvement.

  14. Blattermaus

$16 huevos rancheros was dead, no flavours, no beans, served with uncooked hash browns and a cold tortilla.

  15. Cal Ott

Apparently I’m being told that there is some kind of new rule that unless you request sauces to dip your chicken strips & fries in, you will be eating them dry! However your salad doesn’t get held to that stupid rule. This will end any future orders here from me! I would like to stop in any time invited to watch the manager or staff member to eat a to go container full of chicken strips & fries dry. I will even pay for the order!

We went to the Island Cafe for a small family dinner for 5. We were greated cheerfully and seated right away. After ordering our beverages, which were served immediately, our server took the orders all around from their great diverse menu. She soon returned with platters steaming with generous portions. What a great evening! We’ll be going back for sure!

I’m not one to usually leave a comment about our experience, but I hope this will help the establishment re-adjust their quality of food.
First, my wife and I were visiting Anacortes for the weekend and we always look for fun new experiences with every place we visit. It isn’t our first time to this town and we have had some good eats in previous visits. We enjoy good food and usually have a good barometer for what to expect.
We started by ordering our drinks. A cup of coffee with cream, OJ, and a water. The OJ was fine, same with the water, but the coffee was burnt. Like cigar ash burnt. I actually told my wife it was like tasting a cigar. I drink alot of coffee. I’ve had some really cheap coffee in my life. This was beyond that. I had two sips before pushing it away.

My wife ordered the Salmon and Spinach Eggs Benedict, one of the daily specials. I ordered the Country Fried Steak and Eggs off of the regular menu.
Okay. We didn’t expect what seemed like a pre-packaged store bought frozen salmon Patty. I mean, this is a seafood town… where was the filet? The spinach wasn’t even cooked in the slightest and the Hollandaise sauce was possibly from a package? The rest of the meal came with hash-browns which partially under cooked. She ate a portion of one of the two eggs Benedict before stopping.
The Country Fried Steak and Eggs was not the best. The steak breading was overly salty and it came with way too much gravy. I ate about 1/3 of it. The Eggs I ordered over easy, they were fine. The hash browns were also undercooked in some spots and over crispy in others.
Overall, we always hope that when we try a new place that we find something amazing. We also never leave comments about our experiences, good or bad. I just hope that this review will help the establishment think about their quality of food a bit more.

    Great fish and chowder

  19. Tracie Y

This place serves breakfast all day. Pancakes are a little tough, but overall this is a good place to eat.

  20. garry aschim

Had fish and chips last night the worst I’ve ever had all four pieces were burnt

Let me start off by saying I live in Oak harbor and frequent Island Cafe there. I have never had a bad experience there. I work in Anacortes and never go to island Cafe there so today I decided to go thinking it would be the same . It is not the same . I was seated in an empty part of the Cafe and it was dark ..why not seat me near a window instead of by the bus station!? Monica was my server and she was nice enough but wasn’t feeling the love lol ! Ok ! So my order ! I usually order ( in Oak harbor) the big burger with a side of au jus so thats what I ordered here . Seemed like a long wait but its cool I get paid by the hour ! It came out and it wasn’t what I ordered. What came out was a plain cheese burger fries and au jus ….im guessing a burger dip . But the big burger has pepper jack , lettuce, tomato , onion and most importantly mayo lol ! I was sorely disappointed but I was hungry so I ate it and was disappointed again when the burger was very gamey …just wasn’t what I wanted ! Now here comes the bill 22 dollars!!! 25 with a bit of tip because I’m not an A hole but man for that kind of money I could have had two lunches at Lucky chopsticks!! I’m not sure if they are owned by the same people but Anacortes needs to step up there game compared to Oak harbor. As a server I might have comped my 3.25 fountain drink !! Just to say I’m sorry a bit but no apology was offered in the form of a discount . I would be hesitant to go back mostly because who can charge that much for a plain cheese burger and fries!! Maybe they are used to tourists and not regulars lol ! Expect high prices and so so service . End rant.

Excellent fish and chips, tasty garlic bread, fresh coleslaw! Yum!!

  23. Vera Miller

The Corned Beef and cabbage dinner was delightful, as was the Fish and Chips, lightly battered. Thank you.

  24. Michelle Lee

We only went in because Dad’s dinner was closed, and I highly regret it. The food was bland and nothing was crispy.

My best friend and I went to Island Cafe on the last day of our annual BFF weekend. The food was delightful. I mean, really good! And, to her credit, my server did her best to answer all of my many questions.
I do have a couple of humble suggestions. One, I had asked if the onion rings were beer battered or panko. The server said beer battered so I ordered them. They weren’t, though. Don’t get me wrong. They were still yummy! But there’s a difference in coating with a beer-batter and having a crumbly, gritty coating. The second thing is I do realize I am a high maintenance patron. I am always very nice and ask with a smile but I do know that my questions can take a little bit of time. I felt as if I was getting on my server’s nerves. Now, I have worked in this industry before and I know you can get to the point of irritation because of aching feet, previous grumpy customers, or any number of things. That is why personally I try to be super nice and have a big smile. Even if I have a problem I usually do my best to make everyone feel as ‘at ease’ as possible. Anacortes is a cute little town open to tourism. So as a general rule I would hope for servers that meets somebody like me at least halfway. ☺️ I promise that somebody like me would be a repeat customer (especially if tourism brings me back), not to mention a generous tipper, if made to feel important. A smile, a friendly “how are you doing today”, and most importantly a “Thank you. Come again!” I hope this is helpful! Thanks!

Expensive and the food was flavorless, and portion sizes got smaller from a couple years ago.

  28. Jen S

I didn’t expect to find avocado at a classic diner. It was a pleasant surprise and of course I had to order it. Really enjoyed the scramble, though the hashbrowns were a tad too greasy and the waffle was chewy. Brewed coffee was good.

Good service and large portions. Plenty of free parking around. Other places had waitlists for breakfast and I’m glad we ended up here. Would come back if in the area.

  29. Lyn Walker

Standard American cafe that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had a standard breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. The food was plentiful and good. Four sausages came with the meal.

  30. Richard Perkins

Great food and service. Sorry no pictures. I forgot. The corned beef hash was excellent and so was the breakfast burrito.

  31. Barry Grant

Late lunch was a great Hamburger and crispy fries. It was outstanding!

  32. Rosie Huntemann

Quick lunch. Tried the chicken quesadila. It was delicious.

  33. mary mattson

Love the fish and chips. Excellent!

  34. Robert Schuppert-McDonald

We had sandwiches for lunch. I got a Monte Cristo with side salad and Stephen ordered a French Dip with fries. The wait staff was friendly, but they seemed to be working in slow motion. We were seated then after 10 min. the menus showed up. It wasn’t long after that we placed our orders. Just guessing, the kitchen had a problem with the amount of orders they needed to expedite. After waiting for our food for 30 min. and having a ferry to catch, we asked for it to go. Our waitress obliged and got the food packed up. The ferry is a 10 min drive yet the food was stone cold except for the au jus. Just a hunch, but I think they forgot about bringing our order. It’s a cute cafe but unfortunately one we will skip next time in Anacortes.

  35. Steve M

It was a matter of best intentions. We were seated quickly and placed our order in less than 5 minutes. But after 30 minutes waiting we had to change things to take away so we could get in line at the ferry. Drinks never came and we scrambled out the door the moment our food was presented. While it took only 7 m ok nutes to get in the ferry lines about 2 Miles away but everything was stone cold including the au jus. Seems to meet our order sat around some place while we waited. It’s too bad because everything seemed well prepared.

  36. adam bartell

I ordered the biscuits and gravy, and the gravy was clearly made with beef hotdogs instead of pork sausage. I don’t know if it’s better that they were all-beef hotdogs, or worse – because at least traditional hotdogs contain pork.

I have never, ever experienced such an awful substitution for such a simple dish. I would not have ordered it had it been disclosed on the menu.

  37. Cathy T

I would give it a 3.5 stars. Service was both friendly and professional. The fish in the Fish and Chips was excellent. Given it’s fried, it was surprisingly NOT greasy. The rest of the meal was ok..but do you see the dark green soggy leaf in my salad? Yeah, there were a few of those in there. However the iceberg lettuce was nice and crisp.

  38. Kimberly Schafer

Hollandaise sauce was bland, the sausage gravy had no flavor other than a raw flower taste. Our waiter only took our order and served us our food. He didn’t check to see if we were ok with our food, didn’t give us refills and I had to go up and ask for our bill. He was terrible I shouldn’t have gave him the 5$ tip.
Lesson learned, we will never go here again. Paid $50 for two garbage meals.

  39. Ayla Bowen-LeBlanc

I would love to give a higher rating. Their hours really suck… today i called in for a togo order. Philly steak with a side of au jus. I get home, i live 12 blocks away.. i pull the bag out and my au jus was over half gone because they decided to use a togo coffee lid for my au jus.. half spilled all over my bag and soaked the togo box holding my sanwhich and salad… i am so disappointed.. i love the food they serve and cook but that is ridiculous…

  40. Larry Fletcher

Great place with friendly staff. My 3 meat omelet was very good as was my wife’s breakfast. Pancake syrup a bit weak apparently.

  41. Katherine Inzunza

We had the soup and salad with clam chowder which was decent. However, we had a side of fries they at first were ok but at the bottom of the basket they had an awful taste.
