4. The atmosphere at this adorable inn/ pub is unmatched! When you walk in, you are greeted with the most friendly of staff who continue to provide great service throughout your entire visit! The menu is very with wonderful local selections. The clam chowder is a deconstructed version of the highest caliber ingredients. It is not to be missed. The fish and chips are of the catch of the day, when we were there it was halibut and absolutely fantastic. Fantastic. They also have a wonderful assortment of salads. The roasted root vegetable salad is absolutely fantastic. Not only is the food amazing, the view is wonderful with a view of the Ilwaco. Marina. I would highly recommend this venue.

5. Best salmon dip I’ve had in my life! The salmon cioppino was delicious and had hefty portions of seafood. The halibut fish & chips were cooked perfectly and the breading was delicious. We visited the restaurant while staying in the state park and loved everything we got. We would definitely recommend stopping here for seafood!

6. This place is great. The Ilwaco area is starting to revitalize and you can see how much effort the community is putting in. The hotel check-in was a breeze. The room was simple and the price in January was a steal. I cannot say enough about the choices of art throughout the hotel and pub. Local, creative and high quality. The pub was outstanding. Wasn’t expecting such top notch food and service. We had dinner and brunch there. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Clam Chowder was more brothy than thick and had clams in-shell which was different. It was great, but if you’re particular about your chowder then keep that in mind.

25. Salt was almost an accident this day – Easter Sunday and very little was open in the area, so we ended up here for a late lunch and will definitely be returning. Rhoda waited on us and she was fast, friendly, and efficient. The first interaction of a meal sets the entire tone, and she made it excellent! We started with ceviche and for entrees; I got a burger and my wife ordered a vegetarian bowl – we were both extremely happy – food was perfect and really tasty (make sure to add the candied jalapeños to your burger). The food was served fast with great timing between the appetizer and entree. The atmosphere is comfortable with views of the pier/dock/river. If you are in the area when it is open (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays), be sure to try this gem.

32. Ate at the Salt Pub on a hot 88 degree day, after spending hours at the Cape Dissapointment State Park which is located three minutes from this hotel&pub. (Excellent location!) There are two ways to enter the pub, from the hotel courtyard and from the back walking path that runs along the marina and numerous shops. There is both indoor and outdoor dining, we sat inside to get a break from the sun. Our server PETER deserves the utmost respect from management and honestly deserves a promotion. From our first interaction as he approached us, to paying the bill and leaving, he provided the highest quality customer service. We love you Peter!!! We ordered the salmon spread with sourdough bread, tuna melt with fries, and a weekend special seafood alfredo. Delicious food, that will leave you scraping your plate no matter how full you are. Please come check out and support this establishment!

33. They set a special table outside for us so our dogs didn’t have to stay in the car. Best salmon dip ever–house made, their recipe. Clams were awesome, and superb service. Overlooks a working marina, south to Oregon. We’ll probably stay there next trip!

40. I don’t often do reviews, unless I’m just so impressed by a place that I can’t contain the urge to spread my excitement to others. This place is a rare gem. We ate at the pub, and will definitely return to stay in their hotel as well.

    There’s a shortage of fresh, creative food in Astoria, so cross the river to soak in the charm of this sleepy little town and do not miss eating at Salt Pub. The menu is super creative, with both comfort food classics and inspired Northwest dishes to meet the needs of both health conscious eaters and folks looking for some comfort. Everything we got was fantastic, and we would order each of those things again. The seafood is fresh off the boat, each day’s dishes being prepared with the catch of the day. The energy is fresh, and hip, and fun. The staff is super welcoming and friendly, and we left there already planning our next trip back. We got oysters, fish tacos, fish and chips, some excellent local beer, and the roasted vegetable salad. They were all wonderful, and that roasted vegetable salad is definitely a standout. If you’re looking for a delicious bowl of fresh vegetables expertly prepared with delicate flavors that you’ll want a second helping of (which I am forever in search of) that’s definitely it. Can’t wait to return!

42. We dined here in April 2023 on a rainy evening and both my husband and I ordered the crab and shrimp mac and cheese! Wowzers! So good!!! So much flavor and loved the presentation!! I’m pretty easy to please on presentation though – ha. I was between two cocktails offered on the menu, so I let the bartender choose for me and boy was it fantastic! Everyone dining around us was enjoying their drinks and food, wasn’t a face without a smile in the restaurant. We are looking forward to visiting again!

    There was a young toddler with a couple while we were there and it was completely pleasant, so I could this being family friendly.

50. Came here on a Saturday, which also happens to be the day Ilwaco has their Farmers Market, so we did have to sign up on the waitlist in order to be seated at the restaurant. It was less than 20 minutes later that I received a text stating our table was ready! Even though they were clearly busy, the servers were all friendly and the food came to us in a reasonable time. We tried the Crab & Shrimp Mac & Cheese, clam chowder, and grilled cheese sandwich. The pasta was INCREDIBLE with large chunks of Dungeness Crab and little shrimps scattered throughout. The chowder was less traditional/more modern version of the dish (with in-shell steamer clams on top and a thinner broth) but delightful still. Despite being on the kids menu, we were able to get a grilled cheese for the non-seafood eater, who stated it was one of the best sandwiches she’s ever have. Great beer selection and full bar. Awesome location with plenty of shopping around. Recommend!

51. My husband and I had lunch here while visiting the coast. The service was great. Loved the atmosphere and view. Delicious drinks and oysters on the half shell. I also got the salmon and crispy polenta with greens which was good but needed more flavor. It needed more sauce or vinaigrette for the salmon and polenta which was a bit dry and lacking flavor. My husband had the Cubano which was OK. We would definitely give it another try in the future.

53. The rooms are clean and adequate. The service is great. They do everything via text- which some people find odd, but I think it’s great. I have stayed there many times without ever talking to a human at all! If the pub is open, try it out. The food and drinks are pretty good.

54. Assuming we caught the hosting/serving team on an off night: missed our name on the list, sat us without menus, brought the wrong meals and managed to make us feel like we were inconveniencing them with our requests. Food was good but constant service mistakes made it hard to enjoy.

They were obviously stressed out because they had people waiting for tables and refused to take any more reservations. We were told we could sit at the bar, but couldn’t order any food there. They were very rude. Two of us are locals and have stopped 3 times. We were able to get a table once and eat. Food wasn’t anything special and again the server was rude. I won’t be trying to give them my business again. There are plenty of wonderful places to dine on the Peninsula where your business is appreciated.

57. Ideal romantic dinner! Intimate restaurant, bar, and hotel overlooks active marina. The kitchen prepares an upscale menu with reasonable pricing. We had an interesting seafood mac and cheese built around Dungeness crab sporting a sauce Verde. The second plate was cioppino chock full of regional clams in the shell, salmon, and shrimp crowned with a huge prawn. The stew/soup covers wedges of garlic polenta. The experience is like treasure diving! The fish and chips are also highly recommended by locals.

68. Beautiful spot with great food and great service. I got the fish and chips which is catch of the day based(rock fish that day) and it was amazing, perfect batter and wasn’t oily or greasy. My son got the salmon burger and I’ve never had a fish burger feel and taste so meaty and taste so full of salmon and the salmon burger didn’t taste/feel bready at all. I’m from Seattle, but I’ll travel the four hours to come back here.

72. Our waitress went out of her way to make sure our vegan food was exactly as we wanted. Thank you for having vegan suitable options on the menu. Bean and mushroom bowl and bean burger both without cheese were great.

73. We sat on the patio overlooking the marina and ocean which was divine. Pets are allowed out there and they provide water bowls for them.

    They were out of like 4 items on the menu. I ordered the fisherman’s stew and crab and prawn Mac and cheese. The stew was a bit strange and had nuts in it, the flavor was just different, not bad. The Mac and cheese was extremely bland. I ate the prawns and left the rest.

    We also had bloody marys and they weren’t my favorite. I’m thinking they had a bit too much horse radish in them?

    The service was great, overall.

74. We drove all the way up to this restaurant from Oregon City For my Birthday, after seeing they had pretty good reviews and seafood. The drinks were good. The special was completely inedible, soggy bun, cold fries, and cold meat, my son sent that back and was credited a children’s chicken strip. Those were good the fries came out warm, oily and mushie. I ordered the Clams and now all I can taste and burp is that massive Chuncks of garlic from the broth. The ceviche was made with the tiniest shrimp, and it came out tasting like lemon and that is it. I ordered the bean and mushroom bowl that came out microwaved, plopped together and inedible. Our waitress was nice but I asked to talk to the manager and she wouldn’t come over and said it was good enough that they gave my son chicken strips and took my bean and mushroom bow off the order. I have never complained at a restaurant before but this was absolutely not worth it. How they have as many stars as they do is beyond me. Worst 81 dollars I have spent getting food.

84. This review is for the pub only, not the hotel. This place is an absolute hidden gem that everyone should stop at when they’re in the area. Heck, I’m even a believer that this is worth driving to just for a nice meal . Particularly, the polenta is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life. I have no idea how they do it, but between the perfectly sauteed vegetables in an incredible sauce and the mixture of the polenta, it is life-changing. The rest of their food is also super good, we have yet to go wrong with ordering anything there.

87. I was missing conditioner in my bathroom, I missed my morning shower. but the bed was really comfy. The bar downstairs had delicious food and very friendly, welcoming staff. I really like what this hotel brings to the area, it feels like home. Its a romantic little ocean spot, don’t miss it.

What an absolutely gorgeous day we have here today to enjoy all that our little slice of heaven has to offer! With that, I decided to take my wife out to lunch at a place where the food and the atmosphere just seem to get better every time we go…down at the Ilwaco marina, the Salt Hotel & Pub Ilwaco. As they’ve always got a great selection of beers on tap I scooped up a pint of North Jetty Brewing Ledbetter Red Scottish Ale… one of my favorites!

    For an appy we grabbed an order of their house made spinach dip, served with sourdough bread. This thing was a flavor bomb! So rich and creamy, it’s filled with loads of freshly cooked spinach and cheeses. The toasty crust leaves a few little crispy bits to nibble off the edges too…yummy! Maybe next summer they’ll add some Dungeness crab to it and send it even FARTHER over the edge with flavor! 🤩

    My wife built her own lunch from a side salad (which was ginormous and looked absolutely fabulous) and an appetizer of the steamed mussels. The mussels were perfectly cooked in white wine, butter and aromatics and were served in a bowl of the most lively, lemon based broth.

    I went out on a limb and ordered the “Dirty Reuben” sandwich. If you’ve seen my previous posts about Reubens then you already know the tenuous relationship I have with them…😂 Well, this isn’t your grandpa’s Reuben, let me assure you of that! It starts with a crumbly, yet stout dark rye bread that feels like it came out of some 500 year old brick oven. Layered on that is a house made “stout kraut”, house made “dirty sauce”, a blend of cheeses and the most tender corned lamb I’ve ever had. Oh yes, and that’s all served with hand cut fries.

    Now you’re probably saying wait, did he just say lamb?? Yeah, I did. And it was amazing. Full stop! So tender and juicy, full of flavor, it’s brined in stout beer and a concoction of seasonings that was discovered in some ancient cave on the island of Sardinia…😂 Seriously though, flavortown on display! I only finished half of that beast as it was just so stuffed full off gooey goodness. And that stout kraut! Forget about it! So good! Still crispy and soaked with all that flavor from the dark stout beer. The dirty sauce is a riff on thousand island dressing only…. like, way better. Not too much of it, and it’s not too runny. Great addition to compliment the cheese blend that holds it all together on the bread! We did grab a fig crisp dessert on the way out just to have a little something sweet for later once all this food has settled!

    The next time you’re headed out and you want a great meal with fantastic views, head down to Ilwaco and go see the folks at The Salt! 94. Off the beaten path, Salt hotel and Pub is a gem you won’t believe you didn’t know about. It’s that cool!

    The pub food is seriously fantastic, probably one of the best meals I’ve had in the Astoria Long Beach area. The rooms are simple and perfect. The waterfront is lovely. Highly recommended!

106. For the food…the “Harvest Black Bean and Mushroom Bowl” is DISGUSTING. Strangely spiced mushrooms with dry potatoes and a ton of dry beans that don’t pair well at all. The waitress told me after that she knew it was an awful dish that would soon be removed from the menu and she didn’t even warn me. We appreciated her helping us find a dish that didn’t violate my food allergies, but I was really disappointed with the quality and lack of sauce (I had to drown it in hot sauce to make it tolerable). I mentioned all of this on the way out to her. The curry was very good and I wish I had not wasted my money on the rest.

The curry soup was awesome, two of us had the bangers and mash and one had potatoes that weren’t cooked through, but we both agreed the flavor was awesome (when avoiding the raw potato), the clam chowder was solid and the sandwiches were pretty rich but had great fries. Tasty drinks and the server who walked in and was given our table before getting her coat off was a good sport even though she seemed a bit overwhelmed. Previously had great clams and burger here. Will definitely be back but maybe during the week when it’s less busy.
