1898 Public House
Traditional American Restaurant in Spokane, WA
Great atmosphere and wonderful food. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had the Whiskey Sirloin. Portions are big and service is friendly and effecient.
Such a fabulous establishment for a special dinner out! Enjoyed the wood planked salmon and a perfectly cooked sirloin steak. Finished with chocolate lava cake and a lemon bar for dessert. Divine!! And the service was spectacular, thank you Tad!! We’ll be back!
Great food, service, and atmosphere! We had the House Burger with Fries and the Kale Brussel Sprout Salad. All was delicious. We definitely will be back as their dinner menu looked amazing.
Been in Spokane since 2008 and never heard of this establishment. Was looking for a new place to have dinner with the wife and stumbled upon this place on Google search. Made reservations online which was super easy.
1898 Public House was a great experience to us from the service to the drinks to the food. Excellent all around. We will definitely be back when the weather warms up and hope to get an outdoor seating table as the grounds are beautiful from what our server was telling us.
A very enjoyable evening with my husband with nice atmosphere and wonderful service. The Wicked Shrimp was addictive. I tried a bite of his burger and wished I could eat it. Very good. The only issue with our entire evening was my bowl of clam chowder. It looked and smelled wonderful, filled with clams and potatoes in a nice hearty base. You see, I’m from FL and we love a good chowder and this bowl set before me looked amazing. I stirred it around and saw how rich and thick it was with clams. I brought it to my mouth and tasted everything that you would want in a clam chowder, except there was an odd sour taste. I told myself that perhaps it’s made with a sherry base. I didn’t ask and I told our server that everything tasted good. I didn’t want any fuss. I don’t want any fuss now either. I’m not sure if the sourness was intentional as the PNW is known for it’s eclectic spin on classic foods; it just wasn’t to my palet in any case. The drinks however, were very much to my husband’s liking. The Smoked Manhattan was like a small moving sculpture to the eye and a riot of flavor. I highly recommend!!
It was a beautiful way to spend my first morning married ❤ my wife and I loved it. Wonderful good, great service.
Booked private room for birthday. I must say the staff is truly amazing. Kelly our server was outstanding and genuinely friendly. The food was absolutely the best. We had bbq chicken which was yummy but the brisket I can honestly say was the best I’ve ever eaten. Our chef Blake is worth checking out. Restaurant week is the last week in feburary. I would suggest making a reservation. The pic in black and white is the fabulous chef. Thank you Blake and Kelly. The amazing food, views, family, friendly atmosphere will bring us back. A MUST CHECK OUT..
Delicious food in a gorgeous location!
Great Sunday brunch, love the bloody Mary bar and the mimosas line.
Never fails to astound me with the quality of food, friendly staff & amazing atmosphere!
Hamburger was not done and after it was returned it came back still too rare. Also the $17.00 price tag is overpriced for what you get.
Our waitress was amazing and on point with everything but not too fond of how we got seated. Came in with my wife (two people) waited and another party came in that had 4 guests that got seated before us. Plenty of tables available but not sure why we waited longer. After being seated I looked around and realized that plenty of seating was available so not sure what was going on. For that, I won’t come back and my steak wasn’t warm but more on the cold side.
Our go-to spot for romantic dinners or when we are in the mood for some excellent food. Always consistent. The price is well balanced and the service is ideal.
Asked for medium well recieved very rare I dont think much of the meat was cooked. People came in after us got thier food before us. Probably because it is a huge steakhouse and there is a huge need to keep the expo putting the right food to go out right tables idk
The food is great the staff is friendly and super attentive. I’ve been here several times and always love it.
This is my favorite meal during restaurant week. I had a small version of the ahi tuna with won ton chips, a steak (perfectly medium rare) with potatoes and asparagus. There were three of us and we were all impressed with our food choices and our waiter.
We went there during Restaurants Week for date night. Staff was so nice, food was AMAZING, and drinks were to die for. Definitely worth a visit. Fancy, so maybe change your PJ pants 😜
Location is beautiful, portions are generous.
Though cocktail drinks are week and sugary.
Food is ok.
Delicious brunch, great service and quiet atmosphere.
Real a super find. Not high end or low in, but just right.
Makes you feel good to be there.
Great atmosphere. Pretty good food. Decent prices. Great presentation
Brunch was amazing
We all went to celebrate my birthday and had an amazing time. The food was fabulous and the service was top notch. This is our first time here and plan on coming back soon.
Our server was phenomenal, and 4 out of 6 of us were happy with our meals. The fried chicken was dry as a desert, couldn’t finish it. The biscuit was so hard you could knock out Mike Tyson with it. I would have broken a tooth if I tried to eat it. The atmosphere is basically a glorified sports bar, with TVs everywhere, not exactly romantic or nice. Two big TVs near our table just endlessly cycled ads for the casino, which I think takes a full star off of the place.
There mimosas and blood Marie’s are the best. Today we had the biscuits and gravy, waffle with huckleberries, and the skillet hash. Food and drinks were amazing and our server was so nice as well!
One of our go to spots! Great food and atmosphere. Staff is friendly and accommodating. We have never had a bad experience here!
Great service nice atmosphere a really nice place to take your family!
Delicious meal. Reservations for a birthday dinner by the window. Great service.
Went for Mother’s Day brunch and it was absolutely amazing. From the time we got there till we left. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The food was great and the mimosas were really good. We will be going back again.
Went for Mother’s day Brunch. Was not impressed at $45 a person. The food was average at best. Most of it was not hot, including the eggs. We Won’t be back.
By far one of our favorite places to eat in Spokane. The food is always excellent and they offer an extensive drink/wine/beer selection. Usually pretty busy, especially on weekends. Would definitely suggest you make reservations.
Good food, a little on the pricey side, and our server was great. The view of the golf course was beautiful.
Had a 50th bday there and everything was excellent. Service, bartender etc
Out of the blue I seen this place and was hungry and decided to stop what a delight friendly people and great service what more can you ask for.
Great food and atmosphere. Wonderful for any special occasion or event
To begin with, The staff is always super friendly and the restaurant itself has a very welcoming and comfortable feeling. The food is good but it doesn’t match the flavor the price would suggest.
So amazing, truly excellent cuisine. I had the ossobuco and my wife had the cordon bleu -both were outstanding. The chefs here are truly inspired artists. The creative and eclectic menu options are masterfully executed from concept to plate. I’m a big fan of Kalispel hospitality restaurants and have been to all of them and this, in my humble opinion, is the best. The presentation was 5 stars. The prices we’re also super reasonable for the quality and portions of the food. The atmosphere was also worth noting, as our table looked out on the oldest golf course in Spokane. If you want a nice site down dinner or lunch I would recommend this over anywhere in north Spokane I’ve been to. Our visit was at lunch and it wasn’t very busy so that was nice also. I’ll definitely be back for dinner soon.
We “chose” to spend our 20th wedding Anniversary here. We had a nice dinner & drinks. Spent over $125+. Hadn’t been here in months. Sadly we were greeted with a card saying congratulations. Also our waitress said congratulations. Wasn’t even offered a free desert. My opinion is that that was very lame. Offering a dessert was NOT a loss out of your pocket. We could have chose a different restaurant to give out $$ too. Just a very sad & pathetic experience. The “other” restaurant always asks us as we walk in if we are celebrating anything.
We went to dinner for my birthday, sat at a table in the bar area. Ordered drinks, martini and a guiness. The server was very good. Ordered the duck breast for me and hubby ordered the pork osso bucco. Both were extremely well cooked and delicious! Then had the creme brulee for desert, nice sized portion enough for two. Best food we had eating out in a long time. Their prices have gone up, but it’s the same everywhere.
We were seated promptly, the restaurant is classy, clean, and comfortable, not too noisy. Loved Sarah our waitress. We never felt rushed.
Our appetizer was the cheeseboard with cashews, honey, spiced strawberry jam, 4 types of cheese, grilled italian bread (a couple more slices would have been nice), several crackers, pickled jicama, and grapes. Plenty of food for four people to share. I think it was $18
The nice thing about the menu is anyone can find something in the price range they can afford. I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. $22. Absolutely delicious and topped with a creamy mustard sauce that was a perfect combination. Hubby ordered the Ribs with baby red potatoes and a corn salad. The corn salad was very spicy, the ribs slightly spicy but everything was very good. $32
For dessert we shared the cheesecake with Huckleberry sauce. It was a very large slice of cheesecake that was creamy and smooth. A little more lemon/sour cream flavor would have made it perfect. We had a wonderful evening.
Brilliant food excellent service excellent staff everything about 1898 is great
Absolutely incredible drinks! (I had the Old Fashion). The food was fantastic! The food was the BEST!!! Went for a company dinner. I tried not to be greedy. The steaks were a little expensive so I decided to go with the ribs. Instead of dessert I opted for the Brussels sprouts cooked with pepper bacon and the asparagus…although I do want to go back and try the tirimisu I think it was a great choice!
We went here for father’s day this year at my Father request. The view from panoramic window was spectacular the food tasty and well portioned. The price points were friendly for everyone. The only downside is that 1889 is popular on Doordash as well and we had to wait sn hour for our food.
Best salmon and fish fry we have ever had. Reagan was our waitress and she was amazing. It’s a must while in Spokane.
Fabulas black and blue steak and Mediterranean appetizer. Unbelievable this time around… Love you 1898…!
I ordered the duck breast and it was cooked to perfection! Excellent service and the food was phenomenal!
Absolutely incredible Delicious Brunch with great views and Excellent service.
I gave this restaurant 2 stars for the view. I ordered the Asian salad. I’ve never had an Asian-style salad that had absolutely ZERO flavor! The chef needs taste buds! But I ate it because I was starving. The food is definitely not worth the cost. My advice to the Tribe: hire a new chef.
Waited over an hour to get cold overpriced food! Rude waitstaff, not busy at all. No excuse, won’t be back. Wendell
Excellent food, the service was great and views from our window table so very relaxing. You will not be disappointed!
I will go back soon.
I have lived in spokane all my life. Last night my family celebrated my 59 birthday at the 1898 publichouse.. we have eaten at every restaurant that has been in spokane over the yrs. Our experience last night was outstanding. This is a Michelin star restaurant. The food was so good that the salt and pepper shakers never moved.our server Sarah was a delight and one of the most knowledgeable and professional severs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. The atmosphere was perfect. Our best experience ever in spokane bar none. Thank you
Update 7/30/2022 – we went again a few days ago and it was another amazing experience.
Great food, great atmosphere. Not too loud so great for talking with people. Excellent service. It made our night very special
Excellent menu and the lemon huck martini was awesome. I had the salmon and it was prepared perfectly! We will be back to try their brunch.
We had our 20 year class reunion there. The food was good and the atmosphere was great. Parking was a little tight when we went because there was another large event at the same time as ours.
My favorite spot for a 5 star leisure dinner. Had the Sea Bass & it was amazing. A Chief that doesn’t over cook seafood. Need to work on the drink service though. It takes forever to get your bar drinks to you & wine also. Please, make improvements.
The menu choice was very good & so was the food. My girlfriend loved her dish – the tuna. I had the salmon. The service was great – our server was Andrew. I would definitely go back & refer anyone to this restaurant!
I cannot have gluten and was assured that there were options for me upon arrival by staff. Food was good but we ordered gluten-free and asked for the bread on the side. GF bread came on the side and regular bread contaminated the dish. Also, the crackers were not rice as mentioned by waiter which would have been important information to know. Disappointed that no effort was presented to correct the mistake so I just wasn’t able to eat it. I still got very ill after dinner so please be cautious if you are wheat or gluten-free.
This place was terrible! Do not go here!! We took my father there on Father’s Day. We sat down 20 minutes after are reservation time. Took another 20 minutes to get drinks. We ordered and then a half hour later our waitress came back and said our ticket was lost so asked what our order was again. We finally got our food and that was actually pretty decent. My sister wrote a review and told them our experience. So they did credit our bill but then they took out a extra $65.00 2 weeks later?? We are still fighting with them to credit this. I was even warned about really checking over our bill because they will rip you off if they can! Stay away!!
UPDATE: : We went back in and the manager made it right! The manager kept apologizing and said that our dinner was on him. Dinner was excellent! Our waiter Andrew was amazing! He was just adorable! Thank you 1898 for making this right!!
Very delicious food, beautiful view. If you find yourself in this golf course, treat yourself to the public house. Italian style food that rivals any other.
Wonderful. Gorgeous food plating with amazing taste
Went for brunch – food was good, service needs improvement. 2 hostesses for seating and it still took 15 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant was empty. The four of us had already perused the menu and decided what we wanted before our waiter ever came to the table – another 15+ minutes. After the waiter took our order, it was a long time to get our coffees. Even with an empty water bottle at the end of the table, we had to ask twice to get more water. Waiter also never came back with coffee refills.
When we lived in Spokane we came here a lot – very beautiful – great location and the food is delicious !
Very classy place with great food and drink and exceptional service!
Been I few times a bit pricey but worth it.
Country Club restaurant without needing a county club membership. Nice in door seating over looking the greens. (You do need a membership to golf there.)
Good atmosphere with excellent food.
Good bartenders that can make some good drinks. Great for business meeting.
We got there a tad bit before our reservation time and was seated immediately. The hostess was friendly and ensured we were settled in before leaving. The waitress was very friendly and prompt. Our order was taken as soon as we were ready. Our food was served in a reasonable time and was hot. The waitress checked back a couple of time to ensure we were satisfied with the food and to refill our drinks. The good was delicious and the service was excellent.
We began our meal with the Pizza Muffins which are more like a cinnamon roll than a muffin IMO but they were delicious. Hubby ordered the Steak Salad & I had the Mediteranean plate. Both were delicious.
The facility is really lovely overlooking their amazing golf course which originally opened in…1898!
Very clean and super professional one of my favorite places the food is amazing.
Great service! Great atmosphere! Great food! It was a little annoying that several items we were interested were unavailable due to menu transition, but they informed us right away. I would have just preferred to not know about them at all, because inevitably that’s what it sounded delish .
Went for Sunday brunch before moving a wa at from Spokane. This place almost made me want to stay! Food was amazing and the Bloody Mary’s were so tasty. Great service and friendly staff.
We went for a wedding Rehearsal dinner and the food was spectacular. Service was very friendly
Good spot for a cold beer and a burger
Enjoyed the night. Battered fish was 90% batter. Spare yourself that disappointment. The special short ribs was excellent.
Made reservations with view of golf course. Friendly service and the food was excellent. Specifically the filet mignon & pumpkin cheesecake. Best ever!
This was my Birthday dinner so we spent a bit more than we normally would. Everything was delicious, service was spot on, not rushed. It was a bit cold in the restaurant but otherwise perfect.
There is something for every budget on the menu.
The service was great, the food was amazing!! We sat by the fireplace, it was perfect on a cold day!!!
This place is consistently amazing. Fantastic food, service, and overall experience. We always look forward to our visits.
Staff was spectacular! Food was great, I am so overwhelmingly grateful to you all for being open on Thanksgiving…my server was so sweet. Thank you thank you thank you…
Went for Thanksgiving, food and service was stellar!
Came here with my family to celebrate my 40th birthday. Our waitress, Sarah, was phenomenal. Great service, amazing food and overall super happy with the experience. Will definitely come here again.
We started with a seasonal special, a nann flatbread with sauted arugula, portobella mushrooms, carmelized onion, and feta cheese. Overly generous toppings made it a mess to eat. It was really more a bruschetta as the compostion of ingredients was never heated together. But the real shortcoming of the dish was that the onions and mushrooms were seemingly grilled alongside a burger, and the meat flavor proved very distracting. For the entree, my daughter chose the chicken cordon bleu with mashed potatoes and seasonsl veggie (sauted fresh green beans with carrot shreds, actually delish). The sauce for this chicken was a creamy dijon mustard (slightly strong) with a very light panko crust. I chose the aged filet mignon with a gorganzola sauce. The steak was amazing, but the star of the plate was the sauce. The buttery gorgonzola with sweet cream charmed us. We would love to see it paired with either a pasta or chicken course, as a relief from overdone alfredo, not merely recommended with steaks. The dessert we chose was also a seasonal offereing, a cranberry cheesecake. We can see the allure of the idea, which is why we ordered it. The idea, however, did not translate to the table. I could describe the technical failures but suffice it to say they were all left on the plate. The things they did well were exceptional. The things they did poorly were fairly inconsequential, and certainly not enough to turn us away from wanting to return to try more of their menu.
Absolutely love this place. My family dines here at least every couple weeks, Sometimes it’s just fish and chips and burgers, sometimes it’s perfectly grilled rib eyes and seafood. Whatever you choose it will be prepared in a most delicious fashion and served by polite and happy staff. As a matter of fact we’re meeting friends there tonight. I cannot wait. The seasonal fresh sheet looks awesome as usual. I do recommend a reservation here as it can be very popular during the dinner hours. See ya tonight!
Had the ribeye and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked!
Nothing notable about the food but drinks were wonderful!
Highly recommend this dessert. Cinnamon ice cream, pears, and the best pastries. We had such a fun night. 😋
Great atmosphere in a great community on the North side of Spokane. Dined here for our sisters birthday, the service and staff look and act professional and you’ll notice that right away when you walk in. Food and presentation excellent, would recommend for a business, family gathering, work party (reservations available) private area also available for your party.
We had a private party in one of their rooms. The service was amazing! We had muscles, egg rolls and ahi tuna for appetizers and they were delectable. I ordered the salmon with crab on top and it was very good. Others had the fillet mignon and said it was delicious! My daughter had the seafood pasta and said it was good. Be careful though, the seafood pasta is spicy but does not specify that on the menu. For dessert, we had the cheesecake, creme brulee, and chocolate lava cake. All were very good and a great way to cap off the amazing meal!
Service has always been excellent and the food is outstanding
Drinks were good, had beer, service was great! Food not so great! Beef egg rolls are beef roast with frozen corn nuggets, they stink for a egg roll, tacos looked great, but did not enjoy at all! Not what everyone says, go to twigs way better experience. That’s my take on it.
It was so much fun. It would be perfect to go out for brunch! People were so nice and respectful!
A beautiful atmosphere, fun drinks and fantastic food! Service was absolutely 5 ☆We’ll be back!
My husband and I shared out anniversary here, it was mid week at 630 and January, it was quiet and service was steller. I had mahi-mahi en papillote and my husband had cedar plank salmon Oscar both pictured. Off season it might be quieter but great to experience fine dinning without feeling rushed!
Food is yummy and timed well! Restaurant might be short staffed as some staff rushed away before getting utensils and fast enough to not hear us trying to get their attention before leaving the table. Other staff was generous to help after we got up to ask thankfully. For how much you pay it would be nice for a little more attention to the table and as much as it stinks, turn your head and ask what they need when a customer says “excuse me, Hello, hey, sir, or oh hi”. Hopefully it was just a mistake!
Went to dinner on Christmas eve with my family. Excellent service Excellent food. Love this place . Every time I have completely happy. Way to go to the team and chefs at the 1898 public house!!
